Dubai Killers Used Fake EU Passports

EU States Involved In Murder Of Hamas Leader: Dubai Police

DUBAI (AP/Arab News) – Dubai police appealed for an international manhunt Tuesday after releasing names and photos of an alleged 11-member European hit squad accused of stalking and killing a Hamas commander last month in a plot that mixed cold precision with spy caper disguises such as fake beards and wigs.

The case — as presented by Dubai authorities — rings of clockwork espionage and detailed planning that included suspects riding the same elevator as Mahmoud al-Mabhouh before he was slain in an ambush-style attack in a luxury hotel room that took no more than 10 minutes.


But questions emerged about the list of suspects after Dubai authorities released pictures, names and passport photos identifying them as six Britons, three Irish and one each from France and Germany.

Israel envoys called in over Hamas murder row

LONDON — Britain and Ireland called in Israel's envoys Thursday over the use of fake passports by the killers of a Hamas chief last month, as Dubai's police chief said he was sure Mossad was behind the murder...

All the countries except Germany have insisted the passports were faked.

In Austria meanwhile, authorities said they were investigating whether the killers used Austrian phone numbers or SIM cards to plan their hit. Related article: Stolen identities used by Hamas chief assassins.

The Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, a portable memory chip, holds personal identity information, cell phone number, phone book, text messages and other data.

"Apparently Austrian phone numbers were used," interior ministry spokesman Rudolf Gollia told AFP. "But we can't say anything further. The investigations are underway and we're in contact with Dubai police."

Hamas Official's Murder Allegedly Coordinated In Austria

The murder of Hamas leader Mahmud al-Mabhuh in Dubai on 19 January was allegedly coordinated in Austria, according to German media.


Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported today (Weds) that analysis of telephone calls made in Austria showed that the operation’s "commando centre" had been in the Alpine Republic.
